Daily Bell Ringers for Grades 6–12

Need a bell ringer for tomorrow? A fresh set is posted every school day before 2 a.m. Central at Daily Bell Ringers, our free companion site.

Each day has one page for grades 6–8 and one for grades 9–12, with an ELA, math, science, social studies, and current-events prompt. Answers and teacher notes sit in a collapsed box, so you can project the page without giving anything away. No sign-up required.

What Is in Each Day’s Set

Every school day, Monday through Friday, you get five short prompts per grade band. Each one is written to take three to five minutes, so you can pick the one that fits today’s lesson instead of running all five.

  • ELA: a grammar fix, a word part, or a short reading question.
  • Math: one problem with a worked answer in the teacher notes.
  • Science: a quick reasoning question tied to something students can picture.
  • Social studies: history, geography, or civics, often with a primary source.
  • Current events: a real news item students reason about. These prompts ask what happened and why it matters, never which political side to pick.

How to Run a Bell Ringer in Five Minutes

  1. Have the prompt projected before the first student walks in, so the routine starts without you saying a word.
  2. Give students a set amount of time to answer on paper or in a notebook. A visible timer keeps it from drifting past five minutes.
  3. Call on two or three students, or have partners compare answers for thirty seconds.
  4. Open the teacher notes, settle the answer, and move straight into the lesson.

The value is in the routine, not the prompt. When students know exactly what happens in the first five minutes, you spend less time getting the room settled.
