Setting up the room?
The first-two-weeks set
Routines, seating and transitions cover how students enter, where they sit and why, and how you move a class without losing ten minutes. The expectations poster goes on the wall, not in a binder.
Grading eating your evenings?
The assessment set
Formative checks tell you what students know before the summative lands; self-assessment moves part of the reflection onto the student, where it belongs.

Get new classroom resources by email
Everything on this page stays free to download with no email required, and that is not changing. This list is only for what comes next: new printables and packs go out as they are finished, one teacher to another. Unsubscribe any time.
Using these files
Print them, copy them for your department, put them in a new teacher’s mailbox, use them in a PD session. The only ask is that the credit line stays on the page. If you are writing something and want to point readers here, link to this page rather than re-hosting the files, so people always get the current version.
How these were made
These are not stock templates bought in a bundle and rebranded. Most of them started as something I needed for my own secondary classroom, got used with real students, and then got cleaned up enough to hand to someone else. The rest were built alongside the articles they come from, to the same standard. If a resource does not survive contact with a real class period, it does not stay on this page. That also means they are deliberately plain — built to be printed, marked up, and thrown away at the end of a unit, not to look impressive in a preview image.
Everything is editable. Change the wording, cut the sections that do not fit your grade level or subject, and put your own name on it. You do not need to ask. The only thing I ask is that the small ElevateTheNorm.com line stays on the page, so other teachers can find the current version. If you want the background on the classroom all of this came out of, that is on the about page.
Free teacher resources: common questions
Are these free teacher resources really free?
Yes. Every file on this page downloads directly with no email, account, or sign-up. The newsletter box above is optional and only announces new resources when they are finished.
What grade levels are these resources for?
Grades 6–12. Everything here is built for middle and high school classrooms, and most of it works in any subject, from English and history to science and electives.
What kinds of resources are in the library?
Six shelves: classroom management (routines, seating charts, transitions, and a mid-semester reset kit), assessment and grading (formative checks, standards-based grading, student self-assessment), instruction and discussion (Socratic seminar, project-based learning, bell ringers), families and conferences (parent communication logs and student-led conferences), integrity and responsibility, and teacher wellbeing and reflection.
Can I edit the files and share them with other teachers?
Yes. Edit them, copy them for your department, and use them in PD. Please keep the small ElevateTheNorm.com line on the page, and link to this page instead of re-hosting the files so colleagues always get the current version.
How often are new resources added?
New printables go up as they are finished and tested, usually alongside a new article on the site. The newest additions are the Teacher Appreciation Week 2027 thank-you note template and the fall set added in October 2026: a mid-semester classroom reset kit, a parent-teacher conference prep pack, a nonpartisan midterm election civics pack, a Thanksgiving-week gratitude letter project, and an end-of-semester reflection and goal reset.
Who makes these resources?
Clay Shumate, a certified secondary educator with an M.Ed. in Secondary Education, writes and builds every resource on ElevateTheNorm.com for real class periods with real students.
